“This too will pass” One of my favourite sayings is, “This too shall pass.” Recent events including the coronavirus and lockdown have made me dwell on its meaning where this phrase came from. The saying originated in ancient Persia (modern day Iraq) where it was a common proverb. The story goes that a Persian king once sent for the finest craftsman in the land to be brought before him. He gave the craftsman an order to make him a tapestry that would help him get through the best and worst times of his life. One month later the craftsman returned with a beautiful tapestry made from the best cloth available, and woven into the tapestry were the words” This too will pass”. Life is never easy, and we will all experience good times and bad times. Nothing lasts forever, good and bad times come and go. It is always important to remember that the highs and lows never remain with you for ever. The proverb “This too will pass” reminds us that tough times don’t last, but tough people. Always stay positive and remember when you are down, that in time things will turn around for the better. Alternatively, good times too don’t always stick around. You need to make sure enjoy your good days, because the saying goes, today you may be the rooster but tomorrow you might be the feather duster. I always used the saying to help me get through difficult times so I hope it can be a tonic for you when you feel a little down. Stay positive and I love your work. Terry Grubba
